Platelet Sequestration in Man. Ii. Immunological and Clinical Studies.

چکیده
The mechanisms of platelet destruction and their sites of sequestration in disease states are poorly understood. Although recent studies have emphasized the importance of platelet isoantibodies in certain clinical situations (1-3), little is known of the effects of antibodies on platelets in vivo. In conditions such as idiopathic thrombocytopenic purpura, there is debate as to whether immune mechanisms are involved, and sites of platelet sequestration are unknown. The availability of a method for labeling platelets with Cr5' that allows most of the transfused platelets to remain viable and reduces the initial deposition of nonviable platelets in the liver and spleen (4) permits study of some of these aspects of platelet pathophysiology. We investigated the survival and sites of sequestration of platelets exposed to isoantibodies in vivo. Included in this paper are observations of pyrogenic reactions after immune platelet destruction. Studies in patients with idiopathic thrombocytopenic purpura and other platelet disorders are also described.

Identification, Prevention and management of platelet refractoriness
Abstract Background and Objectives Platelet refractoriness can be caused by immunological and non-immunological factors. In non-immunological cases, the source which is usually a disease, should be eliminated. In immunological cases antibodies produced against foreign platelet antigens play a significant role. The aim of this review was to investigate the strategies involved in identifying ...
متن کاملPlatelet Sequestration in Man. I. Methods.
Although the average lifespan of human platelets has been reported to be 8 to 11 days (1-5), the mechanism by which these cells are normally destroyed is controversial. Most investigators, favoring the concept that platelets die chiefly by a process of senescence, find the elimination of transfused platelets to be a simple linear function of time (1-5). On the basis of animal experiments, it ha...
متن کاملO-12: Studies on Sequestration of PDC-109 Protein on Cryodamage and In Vitro Fertility of Crossbred Bull Spermatozoa
Background: Plasma membrane of the spermatozoa interacts with and is altered by abundant seminal PDC-109 present in their immediate milieu in vivo with damaging effect in a time- and concentration- dependent manner. Therefore we hypothesized that sequestration of detrimental protein from ejaculates would be beneficial for cryopreservation of sperm cells. To this aim we evaluated the effect of s...
متن کاملImmunological studies in a case of hydrochlorothiazide-induced pulmonary edema.
A case of acute onset non-cardiogenic pulmonary edema induced by hydrochlorothiazide (HCT) is presented. Rapid recovery was obtained with supportive therapy. Leukopenia was evident during the acute phase, with rapid recovery parallel to the clinical improvement, suggesting pulmonary sequestration of granulocytes. Immunological studies including lymphocyte stimulation test with HCT and measureme...
متن کاملClinical Results of Platelet-Rich Plasma for Partial Thickness Rotator Cuff Tears: A Case Series
Partial thickness rotator cuff tears (PTRCTs) are a common pathology among shoulder disorders in people over 50 years.Treatment of PTRCTs remains controversial. Most studies on the treatment of PTRCTs have explained surgical techniquesor outcomes; few studies have centralized on the conservative and new management of PTRCTs, like treatmentwith Platelet-rich plasma (PRP). These case series study...
